How garage addition can add value to your home
Adding a garage to your home can have many advantages, not only for your car but for the value it adds to your property and home. Protecting your car from weather damage like sun, snow, and ice is paramount, but a garage also protects your car from theft or vandalism.
Garage builders in Chicago can give you some ideas on how and where to start. Firstly, check with your local building regulations as to whether you are able to add an addition on your property and if it will impact your current property taxes.
The next thing you want to think about is size. Try to think into the future and what your needs may be in five or ten years. With a family you may need a bigger car, or two cars. A smartly designed garage can give you a whole new space for a workshop, extra storage and living area if you need it.
A garage attached to your existing home has advantages in that it is cheaper to construct as you have one wall built already. It also makes services, such as electrical, easier to install. A big advantage of an attached garage is that you can access it from your home without having to go outside. Especially great in winter when bringing in the groceries and the kids. It is also more economical from an energy-saving point of view.
A detached garage gives you more privacy and added security with no direct doorway into your house, you also do not run the risk of potentially dangerous exhaust fumes entering your home.Building permits are generally easier to obtain for detached buildings. It also allows you the option of adding an extension in the future.
The garage contractors in Chicago will match your new garage to the look of your existing dwelling. We can replicate the roof-lines of your house, match the present siding, wood or brick finishes and generally make sure it looks like it belongs there.
Chicago contractors will ask you what services you would like to have in your new garage. Electrical goes without saying, but do you want water access for a washing machine, sink or toilet? Also don’t forget about insulation. Installing insulation is much easier during the build than after.
A garage whether attached or not, is going to make a big difference to the resale value of your property, as well as adding curb-side appeal in your neighborhood.

My wife and I are wanting to construct a custom home next year, and we are thinking of having a two-car garage built. Having an attached garage would be really useful during the months when it gets really cold.

With that in mind, it would probably be a good idea to make sure that your detached garage has some kind of air filtration system installed. A filtration system would probably be a lot safer than just leaving a window open when it comes to dealing with exhaust fumes.
