Which garage roofing should I choose?
Before you get your Chicago garage contractors to work on your garage roofing project, you have an important decision to make – which type of roofing materials should you choose for your property? While there are benefits and drawbacks to each type of garage roofing material, there are a few key considerations that can help you narrow down your choices.
Durability – Especially if you live in an area with strong chances of severe weather, like the Chicagoland area, durability of your roof can be a major concern and one that you should consider before picking your garage roofing material. While options like cedar shakes or slate tiles can be more aesthetically pleasing and increase your home’s curb appeal, these options and asphalt shingles as well can all have issues down the road and may require replacement sooner. In contrast to this, choosing a metal roofing material can save you time and money, since metal roofing can look just like these other options and are much more strong and resistant to the weather.
Usage – If you are planning only to store your cars or outdoor equipment in the garage, you may not be as concerned with leaks or the elements since you won’t have property that can be damaged by the weather. However, if you are planning to use your garage as a storage space for valuables or hazardous or flammable materials, being sure that your garage building is sturdy and secure is much more important.
Cost – As with anything else, the more reliable and durable the material you choose, the more the cost goes up for the extra layers of protection and peace of mind. Consider your budget when choosing materials, as you may have to sacrifice the most reliable or sturdy options to avoid going over your planned expenditures. Your Chicago garage builders should be able to provide you honest cost estimates that can help you pick the perfect option for your project.
